Samsung loyalists and tech enthusiasts alike have eagerly been awaiting the release of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. According to a report by The Elec, Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17, 2024, to unveil the new models, including the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Mark your calendars, as this event will bring exciting upgrades and new features to the table.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Design
On the design front, we can expect a few changes for the S24 lineup. The S24 and S24 Plus will still feature a flat back like their predecessors. However, there will be a noticeable change in the side frames, switching from curved to flat. Additionally, the screen of the two models will be taller and narrower compared to the S23 and the S23 Plus.
On the contrary, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a flatter screen design. Furthermore, it will incorporate a titanium frame, similar to its competitors, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Thanks to its high strength-to-weight ratio, this choice of material might contribute to a reduction in weight compared to the previous model S23 Ultra.
According to GSMArena, Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus will come in Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow, while the S24 Ultra will be available in Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Display
In terms of the display, there will not be significant changes in the Galaxy S24 models. The screen sizes for the S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra will remain 6.1", 6.6", and 6.8" respectively as the S23 Series.
However, there is one notable change. While the Galaxy S23 series featured a "Dynamic AMOLED 2X" display with a peak brightness of 1750 nits, there is a leak from Ahmed Qwaider that the Galaxy S24 Ultra could have a peak screen brightness of up to 2,600 nits.
If this information is true, the Samsung S24 Ultra would have a brighter screen than its competitor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which has a peak brightness of 2000 nits outdoors.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Processors
Last year, the three models of the Galaxy S23 series used Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips. However, this year, Samsung has changed its strategy for its Galaxy S24 series based on different regions.
Specifically, S24 and S24 Plus models in South Korea and Europe will use the Exynos 2400 processor, while those released in North America will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
It is worth noting that the S24 Ultra will exclusively adopt the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, regardless of region.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Camera
Regarding the camera lens, we didn't notice any improvement for S24 and S24 Plus. Therefore, it is likely that their camera specifications remain the same as their predecessors from last year, including a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.
Similar to the previous S23 Ultra, the S24 Ultra also boasts an impressive 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. However, Revegnus posted on Twitter that the S24 Ultra will feature a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.
As for the front-facing camera lens, the three models in the S24 series maintain the same 12MP lens as their S23 counterparts.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Memory
In terms of memory, Samsung is offering options to suit various user preferences. The standard S24 model will come equipped with 8GB of RAM and a choice between 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
The S24 Plus, on the other hand, will provide a generous 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage, surpassing the S23 Plus, which had 8GB of RAM and the same storage options.
Stepping up, the S24 Ultra will offer 12GB of RAM and a choice between 256GB, 512GB, or a staggering 1TB of internal storage. The S23 also had options for 8GB or 12GB of RAM, but the maximum storage capacity was limited to 512GB.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Battery
Battery life is another important selling point people are always concerned about. The S24 will come equipped with a 4000mAh battery, slightly larger than its predecessor's 3900mAh capacity.
On the other hand, the S24 Plus model will come with a larger 4900mAh battery, providing users with extended usage time compared to the S23 Plus's 4700mAh capacity.
As for the S24 Ultra, it will maintain its 5000mAh battery capacity, remaining the same as the S23 Ultra.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Emergency Texts via Satellite
Apple introduced Emergency SOS through Satellite in the iPhone 14 series in 2022, allowing users to contact emergency services in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi connections. This feature proved vital in assisting individuals seeking rescue during emergencies.
Recent leaks and reports suggest that Samsung plans to integrate a similar capability called "Emergency texts via satellite" into their upcoming Galaxy S24 series. With this feature, users will be able to send emergency texts using satellite networks, even when their phone is not connected to a mobile network.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Samsung Gauss
During the Samsung AI Forum 2023, Samsung Electronics introduced its own generative AI model, called Samsung Gauss. This advanced model comprises three components capable of generating languages, code, and images by utilizing cutting-edge machine-learning technology.
According to The Korea Times, the South Korean tech giant intends to integrate Gauss into various smart devices in the future. There is a strong likelihood that the S24 handsets might be the first smartphones to debut these AI-generative capabilities, such as email editing, file translation, code assistance, and image generation, etc.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Series: Price
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 models will bring about various enhancements and updates in both hardware and software features. Additionally, we are keen on knowing if there will be any significant price hike associated with these advancements.
Fortunately, Samsung has no intentions of raising the prices of the Galaxy S24 handsets, aiming to boost smartphone sales. Considering the pricing strategy of the S23 series, it is anticipated that the Galaxy S24 series will commence from $799 for the S24, $999 for the S24 Plus, and $1199 for the S24 Ultra.
