Does Z Fold 6 Really Need a Front Case?

We all want our cell phones to last as long as possible, which is why cases are so important. This is especially true for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Its unique foldable structure demands extra protection.

If you search "Galaxy Z Fold 6 cases" on Google or Amazon, you'll find many options available on the market, some with front case and some without. So does the Z Fold 6 really need a front case?

Understanding the Pros and Cons of Front Cases

Let's start with the benefits of a front case. The foldable screen of the Z Fold 6 is its most vulnerable part. A front case adds an extra layer of protection, shielding the display from scratches, cracks, and accidental drops. Considering your investment in such a high-end device, this added protection is invaluable.

However, this sounds more like the role of a screen protector rather than a phone case. Of course, some front cases come with built-in screen protectors, like the one shown below.

However, just like traditional screen protectors, those on the front cases can also easily get scratched or even cracked due to everyday use. When this happens, you’ll need to buy a new front case because a damaged protector affects the overall look and functionality of the case. Plus, front cases are usually sold with the back case, so you'd end up having to purchase a whole new set.

Of course, you might consider a front case without a built-in screen protector, but that comes with its own issues:

Firstly, unless it covers the entire screen, a front case won’t provide real protection for the screen. At best, it just "encircles" the phone's frame and adds bulk. Although the Fold 6 is slightly thinner (0.22" when opened) than its predecessor, the Z Fold 5 (0.24" when opened), it's still bulkier than regular phones (Samsung S24 Ultra: 0.34" thick) when folded. Adding a front case only increases this thickness.

Secondly, compared to the integral design of a back case, a front case is often more fragile and less secure, making it prone to falling off the phone. It doesn’t offer substantial protection.

Thirdly, each front case comes in its unique size and varies by brand. This means finding a compatible screen protector that fits well with an existing front case can be challenging.

Clearly, a front case doesn’t necessarily offer substantial protection for the screen of the unique Fold 6. So, instead of relying on a front case, a dedicated screen protector might be the real thing you need.

Exploring PITAKA's Cases for Z Fold 6

PITAKA phone cases are loved by users worldwide for their sleek design and distinctive style. This year, however, our Fold 6 case does not include a front case, which has puzzled some of our customers.

In previous years, we released premium cases for the Samsung Z Fold series, including the Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5. These cases all came with front cases that framed the edges of the front screen. Similar to the issues mentioned above, these front cases didn’t offer much protection for the screen.

Despite our efforts to keep our cases as slim as possible, the front cases inevitably added some extra bulk. Some users also mentioned that it made screen scrolling less smooth.

However, these issues aren't specific to PITAKA's front cases but are common with most front cases and covers on the market.

With our customers' feedback, and based on current market trends, we decided to remove the front case from the Fold 6 case. We understand this change may still cause concern for some other users.

Aside from this adjustment, the Z Fold 6 case also comes with several upgrades compared to its predecessors.

Previously, our Z Fold 4 and Fold 5 cases were not embedded with magnets. This means they weren’t compatible with magnetic accessories. Recognizing that Samsung phones do not have MagSafe, but that Samsung users still desire this feature, we add magnets to the Fold 6 case, making it easy to attach various MagSafe accessories, such as rings, car mounts, and wallets.

Additionally, our earlier cases primarily featured black/gray tones. Although designs like Overture and Rhapsody added some color accents, our users expected more vibrant options. This year, we’ve kept the classic black/gray while introducing the popular “Sunset” and “Moonrise” colorways from our iPhone 15 cases to the Fold 6 collection.

These enhancements have been well-received by our users. However, we will remain attentive to feedback about the front case. We will continue to listen to our customers, improving our technology and striving to create even better cases in the future.
